Starting November 1, 2024, new regulations for Post-Graduation Work Permit (PGWP) applications come into effect. PGWP eligibility criteria for international students have been updated and IRCC has clarified these details.
So, What Has Changed?
PGWP requirements for students who will apply for a Study Permit before November 1, 2024:
● Bachelor's, Master's and PhD graduates: English (CLB 7) or French (NCLC 7) language proficiency in all 4 competencies (reading, writing, listening, speaking).
● College or other program graduates: Demonstrate proficiency in English (CLB 5) or French (NCLC 5) in all competencies.
PGWP requirements for students applying for a StudyPermit after November 1, 2024:
● Bachelor's, Master's and PhD graduates: Language requirement (English CLB 7 or French NCLC 7) applies and there is no subject limitation. All majors can apply!
● College or other program graduates: Language proficiency in English (CLB 5) or French (NCLC 5) and graduation in an appropriate field of study is required.
Important: In addition to undergraduate students, master's students will also need to obtain a Provincial Attestation Letter (PAL) to apply for a Student Permit
What is the Field Requirement?
Graduation in certain training programs is required in occupations with long-term labor shortages. These 996 fields fall into the following 5 main categories:
Agriculture and Agri-Food: Agriculture, food production and related sciences.
Health Care: Nursing, medicine, pharmacy and other health fields.
STEM: Scientific research, engineering, technology and math fields.
Trade: Occupations such as electrical, plumbing, construction.
Transportation: Logistics, transportation management and goods/services mobility.
