As a university ranked in the top 50 in the world, graduating from McGill University allows you to obtain equivalence in Turkey and pursue your academic or professional career there. This also applies to other countries. Thanks to McGill University's reputation and high quality of education, you can apply for work and further education in many countries outside Canada after graduation.

McGill University Campuses

McGill University has two campuses; the Downtown Campus, located in the heart of the city of Montreal, and the Macdonald Campus, home to the Faculty of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences, situated in the town of Sainte-Anne-de-Bellevue. The Macdonald Campus is located at the western tip of the Island of Montreal, just 30 minutes away from the Downtown Campus.

Downtown Campus

The main campus of McGill University is situated in downtown Montreal, at the foot of Mount Royal. Most of its buildings are located in a park-like campus between Peel and Aylmer streets (also known as Lower Campus). Additionally, the campus extends several blocks west of Peel Street (also known as Upper Campus), starting from Doctor Penfield.

McGill University's downtown campus also houses the Percival Molson Memorial Stadium and the Montreal Neurological Institute and Hospital.

The area known as Milton-Park, located just east of University Street and south of Pine Avenue, accommodates student residences provided by the University. The campus is in close proximity to the Peel and McGill Metro stations.

The university's sports facilities, including the Molson Stadium, are located near Mount Royal, close to the residences and the Montreal Neurological Institute.

McGill University Acceptance Requirements

Immigration Documents

Foreign students coming to McGill University for a program of 6 months or longer must possess a valid passport and obtain the following documents:

1.Quebec Acceptance Certificate (CAQ)

Issued by the Quebec Immigration Office, permitting residency and education in Quebec.

2.Study Permit

Issued by the Canadian Department of Citizenship and Immigration, allowing residency and education in Canada.

International Student Health Insurance

McGill University requires all international students and their accompanying dependents to enroll in the mandatory McGill International Health Insurance Plan. It is imperative to have valid health insurance throughout your time studying in Canada. While you can obtain this health insurance through independent international companies, the recommended method during this process is to follow the health policy recommended/directed by the institution you are applying to.

English Language Proficiency

The language of instruction at McGill University is English. Therefore, non-native English speakers will need to take an English proficiency exam as part of the application process. Throughout your university education, the language of instruction will be English. Thus, you will need to demonstrate proficiency in English academically.

In simple terms, this means that you will need to be proficient in English equivalent to an average Canadian high school graduate whose native language is English.

Please remember that certificates obtained from language courses providing language education in Turkey generally do not have official recognition internationally.

If you have graduated successfully from a higher education institution in Turkey where the official language of instruction is English and it is internationally recognized (e.g., Boğaziçi University, METU), you can prove your language proficiency with your graduation certificate when applying for a master's degree. However, this applies only to institutions that provide education entirely in English. In other words, if you graduated from a program where only 30% of the instruction is in English or from universities where English instruction is limited to certain departments (e.g., Istanbul University), you are expected to prove your language proficiency by participating in one of the exams listed below.

You can prove your language proficiency for your application by participating in the following listed exams:

  • McGill University English Proficiency Exam

  • Cambridge C2 Proficiency (CPE)

  • Cambridge C1 Advanced (CAE)

  • Canadian Academic English Language Assessment (CAEL)

  • Duolingo English Test (DET)

  • IELTS – Academic version

  • Pearson English Test – Academic

  • TOEFL

The acceptance rate of McGill University is 38.1%, while the graduate acceptance rate is 29.2%. This means that the average acceptance rate for all applications is in the range of 30-40%. McGill University prioritizes students' academic backgrounds and language proficiency when considering applications. So, if you don't meet the academic qualifications of the program you're applying to, your chances of acceptance are unlikely. These academic requirements vary depending on the program you apply to. Science-oriented programs pay attention to candidates' academic grade point averages, while arts and literature-oriented programs may require portfolios or additional essays from applicants. We recommend seeking assistance from our expert educational consultants for more detailed information about program requirements.
